Design a Bedroom for Great Sleep

Harborside Village Apartment Living

Is your bedroom conducive for a great night’s sleep?

A bedroom should be a place of peace, of safety, of solace, and of rest. It is arguably the most intimate room of any home that can belong to anyone. Without sleep, life can become horrible quickly. It is worth making your bedroom a wonderful place to get the best sleep of your life. You too can design a bedroom for great sleep with these tips.

Choose a Conducive Bed Position for Sleep

You can take tips from feng shui (and Dear Modern) to find the best position for your bed in your room. Ideally, the bed will allow the sleeper to see anyone who enters the room immediately or has a barrier, such as a headboard, to protect the sleeper from the entrance. The bed should not be against a bathroom wall, either, nor should it be directly opposite a door, where anyone walking in would be confronted with the sleeper’s feet. With all of these rules, it can become a little easier to know the best, most restful position for the bed. At the end of the day, it comes down to common sense.

Have Comfortable Mattress and Bedding

A comfortable mattress can make a huge difference in how well you sleep. For some, a hard mattress will give hip and back pain, while for others, soft memory foam mattresses will create nausea. It is important to find the mattress that works for you so your body can rest up well each night.

Layer Lighting

The lighting can either make your bedroom feel like a warehouse or a cozy hideaway. It’s best to have layers of lighting; overhead lighting is practical for deep cleaning and everyday lighting, while ambient and shaded task lighting helps you have a calm, cozy feeling.

No Electronics Allowed

Electronics are by no means helpful for getting a good night’s sleep, even if you use phone apps for calming music or meditation. Ideally, the bedroom should be a completely electronics-free zone so you can take in the physical surroundings, unwind, and prepare for sleep.

Keep It Clutter-Free

Clutter is the enemy of mental clarity. While it can be comforting to display your favorite art pieces and knick knacks, the room should be free from messes, piles, and loose, unorganized objects for the best effect on the mind possible.
