Summer is the most popular season to move, so if you are one of those people packing up and getting ready to move to a new apartment, it’s important to be prepared! Moving to a new apartment during peak moving season isn’t the easiest situation, but with a few tips, it can be much more manageable. Continue reading to learn how to survive your summer move!
Move-Out Date
Since the summer is the busiest season for moving, it’s essential to choose the right move-out date. If you decide on a busy weekend such as the last weekend in June or on Memorial Day weekend, you will likely have trouble finding movers at a reasonable price. Start booking your move at the beginning of summer, and try to schedule it for a weekday if possible to save some money.
Heat Sensitive Items
You will also need to take into account the weather of the day you move, as hot temperatures can be dangerous to certain items. Be sure to protect all of your heat sensitive items while they are stored in a warm moving truck. This includes electronics, candles, plants, and anything that can be damaged by heat. If possible, transport your smaller electronic devices in your personal vehicle to keep your items cool with air conditioning. Also, pack the electronic equipment in its original packaging for the best protection.
Keeping Yourself Safe
The heat is not only dangerous for sensitive items, but it can also be dangerous to your health! Intense heat from the sun can not only make for an unpleasant, sweaty move, but it can also cause dehydration and exhaustion. Keep yourself hydrated all day with plenty of water, and take breaks when you feel too tired. If you can, schedule your move for the early morning to avoid the afternoon sun as much as possible. Wear lightweight clothes with breathable fabrics, a hat to protect your head, and sunglasses to shield your eyes. As always in the summer, be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen to protect your skin and re-apply every hour.
