This Sunday, April 22, is Earth Day, and Harford County is holding many events in honor of the holiday! Earth Day is an important holiday, as many of us forget just how special our planet is and how we must take care of it. Don’t miss out on these activities this spring, and spend some time thinking how you can improve the world and make a difference!
Earth Day Open House At The Estuary Center
Tomorrow, April 21st from 10am-4pm, celebrate Earth Day with your family at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center in Abingdon, MD. The event will have many stations and activities throughout the day, including seed planting, fish games, tie dye, and more! You can even bring in your old electronics to safely recycle at the “e-cycling station,” as electronics need to be properly disposed of, rather than being thrown in a landfill.
Earth Day Story Hour
This story hour event is also held on April 21st, from 2pm-3:30 pm at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum. The reading will be from a book called “Why Should I Save Water?” along with a fun craft for children, and a snack of goldfish. The book teaches children the importance of saving water, and that clean water is one of our most precious natural resources.
Earth Day 2018 Celebration At Aberdeen Festival Park
This event will take place next Saturday, April 28th, from 11:00 am- 4:00 pm in Aberdeen Festival Park. The Annual Earth Day celebration is a family-friendly event with food, live music, games and more! All game prizes have recycled content or a “green” theme, to teach children the importance of recycling. Guests can also donate electronics such as cell phones and ink cartridges, food (for pets or humans,) or baseball equipment and receive free game tickets for their kind donations!
Simple Ways To Celebrate Earth Day
In addition to going to a fun Earth Day event, there are simple tasks you can do every day to make the world a better place. These simple tasks include recycling whenever possible, taking public transportation or riding a bike rather than driving everywhere, air dry clothes instead of using the dryer, using reusable items such as grocery bags, coffee cups, and water bottles, unplug electronics when not in use, and take some time to plant a garden!
