Tips to Entertain in a Small Apartment
Choose a Focal Point
When planning out your entertainment area, you can begin by choosing a focal point around which to arrange furnishings. It could be a TV, a fireplace, or even a scenic view. If the space is purely meant for conversation, you can also center it around a coffee table.
Select the Right Furniture
It’s best to avoid bulky furniture in small living areas. Go with slimmer, smaller-scaled furniture, furniture that doubles as storage, floor cushion seating, or a combination. If you have a dining room, you can borrow dining room chairs for gatherings. Although less comfortable, folding chairs could also be an option.
Maintain Good Traffic Flow
Keep the living room seating area contained. As much as possible, avoid making people walk through a seating area. If the area feels too nebulous, you can help define the difference between the seating area and the pathway by putting an area rug under the seating area.
Make a Serving Area
Have a space available for food and drinks. It could be a sideboard in the living room or even the coffee table, but it could also be a spot on your kitchen countertop.
Serve Easy-to-Eat Food
When you have guests eating in a living area, it’s best to stick with serving food that is easy to eat without sitting at a table. For instance, serving food that is easy to hold, like pizza, chips, quesadillas, deviled eggs, and other finger food.
Use Disposable Dishware
Don’t underestimate how much cleaning up there would be to do if you serve with your regular dishes. Unless you prefer a fancier setup, it’s okay to make paper plates and plastic cups available.

In a small apartment, cleanliness matters a lot! Take care of housekeeping before guests arrive to create a comfortable and welcoming environment.
