Add a pleasant aroma to your home this weekend and every day with these tips!

There is something very soothing and comforting about pleasant aromas. Whether you are relaxing during a bright day or a rainy evening, scent can change how you feel completely. The smaller your living space, the more sensitive you might become to odors, such as cooking smells. Here’s how to make your apartment smell good as often as possible.

Clean Your Apartment Deeply and Regularly

The first step is to keep the apartment clean. You can add all the room sprays you like, but the odors that come from a dirty apartment will always show through and be altogether unsavory. Keep a routine cleaning schedule and clean deeply on occasion. Cleanliness is the basis to make your apartment smell great!

Eliminate Grease, Oil, and Cooking Odors

Cooking odors can be a big problem in an apartment, even if it’s a two-bedroom one. Even though the smell of chocolate chip cookies, savory dinners, and sizzling bacon are delicious, you don’t want them lingering in the apartment forever or conflicting with other scents.

There are multiple ways to eliminate grease, oil, and cooking odors. Granted that most kitchens have an open layout, closing the door is not an option. The first step is to use the exhaust fan. The second step is to soak up cooking odors with baking soda or coffee grounds left on a plate or small dish. If the odors are very strong, open the nearest window, especially if it is a cool day. Lastly, try burning a candle.

Use Your Favorite Scents

Once you have a truly clean apartment and have limited the strongest cooking smells, you have the foundation for a great-smelling home. It might already smell great as it is! If you want to give yourself a home spa experience, you can add your favorite scents. Some people like fruity smells, floral smells, or other natural smells like cedarwood or a sea breeze. You can use a candle, a wax melter, a room spray, a diffuser, or wood scent sticks.

Pull Back the Curtains and Open the Windows

In Maryland, it might be too hot and humid outside to open the windows during summer, but when it is agreeable weather, it’s a great idea to crack the windows. Letting in the sunlight will kill germs, and opening the windows will keep the air fresh.

Ventilate

If the air feels or smells stale, turn on a fan and crack a window. Ventilation is also important for a healthy, good-smelling home.
